Independent 1:1 AI advisory for Sydney founders and operators. Sessions run over video, the plan lands in writing within two business days, and I do not sell the software I recommend.

How I would work through the decision

The starting point is your work, rather than a particular tool.

  1. 01

    Show the workflow

Bring a real example, the tools involved and where you get stuck.

  2. 02

    Choose an approach

Compare a simpler process, an existing tool and a separately scoped build.

  3. 03

    Review what happened

Try the agreed next step and use the result to guide the next decision.

A useful next step has an owner, a clear purpose and a way to check whether it helped.

Why Sydney businesses want a second opinion first

Sydney has the densest concentration of AI and automation agencies in the country. That sounds like an advantage until you go looking for help. Ask three of them what you should do with AI and you get three build proposals back, because building is what they sell. Nobody is lying to you. They just cannot answer the question you actually asked, which is usually whether the thing is worth doing at all.

The city's industry mix pushes that harder than most. Finance, insurance and superannuation sit in the CBD, and the law firms, accounting practices and consultancies that service them sit in the same few blocks. Those businesses run on documents and review cycles, which is exactly where a language model earns its keep and exactly where a careless rollout turns into a client confidentiality problem. The conversation there starts with what can safely go into a model, not with which tool has the nicest interface.

Head west and the questions change completely. Parramatta and the business parks around it are full of mid-sized services firms, distributors and contractors where the real bottleneck is quoting, scheduling and chasing paperwork. Up on the North Shore and the Northern Beaches it is smaller professional practices, allied health clinics and trades businesses run by two or three people who do the admin after dinner. Same city, three very different first projects.

Getting it wrong is also more expensive in Sydney than anywhere else in Australia. Salaries are higher, agency retainers are higher, and six months spent on an internal tool nobody uses costs you more here in opportunity than it does in fees. A clear plan helps you weigh up the work before committing to a project.

What Sydney businesses actually ask me

  • Can we put client documents into ChatGPT or Claude without creating a problem? The honest answer depends on your plan tier and your client agreements, and it is worth ten minutes of your time.
  • We have been quoted for a custom AI agent. Do we need it? Often the question underneath is whether an off-the-shelf tool plus a tidier process does the same job for a fraction of the money.
  • We already pay for offshore admin support. Where does AI genuinely add anything on top of that?
  • We have twenty ideas on a whiteboard. Which one do we start with, and which ones are traps?
  • Our team has licences they never open. How do we get them using what we already pay for?

I am based in Brisbane, not Sydney, and I am not going to dress that up with a serviced office address. Sessions run over video. From April to October we are on the same clock, and through the daylight saving months Sydney runs an hour ahead of me, so a 9am start in Sydney is an 8am start here and neither of us has to think about it. If you want the wider picture first, start with AI consulting in Australia or the Australian cost guide.

Common questions

Do you meet Sydney clients in person?

Our calls are online. I’m based in Brisbane and we agree a time that works across our time zones.

What do Sydney businesses usually ask about?

Three things come up more than anything else here: whether client documents can safely go into a model, whether the custom build someone has quoted for is genuinely necessary, and how to get a team to actually use the tools the business already pays for. Sydney's finance and professional services concentration means the data question almost always comes first.
